Frequently Asked Questions
Should I memorise well-known English phrases or complex words to sound more fluent?
No. You should practise using a wide range of vocabulary and grammatical structures accurately and appropriately to the topic. Memorised phrases often sound unnatural and may not fit the context, which can lower your score. Focus on natural, real-life communication.
Is it okay to have an accent in the Speaking test?
Yes, your accent is not scored. What matters is pronunciation—that you are clear, easy to understand, and use correct intonation and stress. The examiner should not have to strain to understand you.
How can I prepare for the ISLPR test, since it's personalised?
Practise using English in real-life situations and, crucially, focus on the language of your academic discipline or professional field – teaching. Because the test content is customised to your background and needs, the best preparation is to genuinely improve your English in a teaching context.
How much detail should I include in my Writing tasks?
You must fully address all parts of the task (Task Response/Task Fulfilment). For ISLPR, you will be given specific word count guidance (often around 400 words total for the 2-3 tasks). Quality and structure are more important than excessive length.
Can I take notes during the Reading and Listening sections?
Yes. For ISLPR, you may take notes during the Reading and Listening tasks in the interview.
