11. Frequently Asked Questions

What mark do I need to receive to pass LANTITE?

There is no exact pass mark. You need to perform in the top 30 per cent of the Australian adult population, in order to pass your LANTITE Tests. This is not a ranking against other pre-service teachers sitting at the same time. The standard in the test has been determined by reference to existing frameworks for adult competency in literacy and numeracy, in particular, the Australian Core Skills Framework (AITSL) and the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC).

We suggest that, whilst completing practice exams, you aim to answer most questions correctly. This will give you a greater chance of passing the actual exam and obtaining the skills you need to pass. In order to pass the exam, you need to be performing, on average, in ‘Band 2’. This means that you need to answer most Band 1 questions (easiest questions,  lower-level skills), most of Band 2 questions (harder questions, higher-level skills) and some of Band 3 questions (hardest questions, highest-level skills).

What level of English or Maths do I need to be competent in, in order to be ready for the exam?

In order to be ready for the exam, we recommend being competent in English and Maths to at least Year 9 and 10 level.

Should I complete LANTITE practice exams?

Yes, free (from the ACER website) or paid ones (written by us). The more practice exams you do, the better. Completing practice exams, similar in length and structure to actual LANTITE Literacy exam, is important. Furthermore, when you get closer to your exam date, completing the exam in test conditions is a really good idea.

What study materials do you recommend I use?

It depends on your learning style, study needs and budget. We have plenty of study materials available on our website such as practice exams, webinars, study booklet and online resources. Our tutors, through our tuition programs, can recommend study materials especially for your learning needs and guide you overall.

Should I use NAPLAN resources to help me prepare?

Using Year 9-level NAPLAN resources can help you to prepare for your LANTITE Tests. We don’t recommend using NAPLAN resources as the main or only source of preparation. This is because the LANTITE Tests can be a lot more difficult than Year 9 level. NAPLAN is a school test and LANTITE is a university test. They are different in structure and content. It’s important that LANTITE-style study materials are used (we have many available for you to use), which cover questions in educational texts and of an academic nature (unlike NAPLAN tests).

I’ve completed lots of independent study, using resources I’ve found. I’m not really progressing/I don’t think I’m passing/I don’t know how to improve. What do I do?

It’s important to prepare for your LANTITE Exams with expert support, if you need it. We can help you. If you want to keep studying independently, we have lots of LANTITE study materials that can help you to prepare well and improve. If you need further support, live, real-time support such as one-on-one or group tuition is ultimately the best type of support. We can advise you, guide you, assess and monitor your progress, help you to improve, support you and suggest when is the best time to sit your exams.

Should I have one-on-one or group tuition?

It’s completely up to you.

Group tuition is a terrific option, if you would like to learn in a supportive, interactive group environment, with a specialist tutor, in an intensive, four-week course, with heaps of study materials provided and if you have limited time to prepare. Group tuition is cheaper, per hour, than one-on-one tuition.

One-on-one tuition provides hourly sessions with a specialist LANTITE tutor. Lessons are personalised and tailored to suit your learning needs and goals. An important 20-minute consultation must be attended prior to commencing hourly sessions.

One-on-one tuition is more expensive, per hour, than group tuition. Both group and one-on-one tuition programs are of high quality, comprehensive and are designed to help you achieve LANTITE Success.

Will you and your tutors make sure I pass the exam if you coach and tutor me?

No, as we cannot sit the exam for you, but with our time, care, energy and expertise, we will do our best to help you do well, in the exam and to equip you with important Literacy and Numeracy skills for your teaching career and for life. Feel free to check out our Testimonials page on our website, reviews on our Facebook page or Google Business page and read about the many students who have successfully passed the LANTITE Tests with our expert support, through the independent use of our study materials or tuition support or both. Pre-service teachers who have passed with our support have taken their time to prepare, used our LANTITE study materials, used our feedback in order to improve, taken expert advice as to when to sit their tests and sat their tests when they felt ready.

I’ve booked to sit my LANTITE Tests in an upcoming round, but I don’t think I’m ready. What should I do? As I’m due to graduate/have a job waiting for for me/want to move forward in my degree.

It’s important that you sit your LANTITE Exam/s when you are ready and give yourself the best chance of passing. It’s best to withdraw from this exam round and sit in another round. You won’t receive a refund for your exam registration and it will delay you in moving forward with your degree; however, it’s important not to waste an attempt. Get the support you need from us. We can help you.

I need help with exam stress/confidence/mentally and emotionally preparing for the exam. Can you help me with this?

Absolutely. Being professional teachers in the profession for many years, we can definitely support and encourage you in these areas. We incorporate into our tuition programs important ways to manage performance anxiety, stress, your time and ensuring you are well supported not just academically, but also mentally and emotionally. We ensure our students are confident and competent when sitting their exam.

Elizabeth (Director) has written a webinar about how to prepare holistically for the exam. Check out Webinar #8 (information on this page). It’s free for group and one-on-one tuition students.

We also have Wellbeing Support Sessions available for pre-service teachers who need support with test anxiety, stress and time management.

How many lessons should I have before my exam?

We recommend coaching and tutoring the earlier the better, for the best preparation, learning outcomes and to maximise your chances of passing the exam. We suggest at least a five weekly lessons before sitting your exam.

I have been unsuccessful with the LANTITE Literacy Exam more than three times. I am concerned about whether or not I can continue on with my course or graduate. What should I do?

We can write a letter to your university for you (if you are up to your final attempt), saying that you are our one-on-one students and explaining that, with our support and guidance, you are showing excellent progress and readiness for the exam and that you should be allowed another opportunity to sit the exam. Terms and Conditions apply. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions page for more information.

How many students have you and your tutoring team tutored?

We support hundreds of students each year, through group and one-on-one tuition, Wellbeing Support Sessions, webinars, study materials, social media posts, monthly e-newsletters and general enquiries. It’s been so rewarding helping so many of you achieve LANTITE Success and become the teachers you’ve worked so hard to become!

How will I know if and when I’m ready to complete the exam?

We will help, guide and support you as your tutors and coaches, as to the best time for you to complete the exam.

Should I complete one LANTITE exam at a time, or complete both (Literacy and Numeracy), in the same exam window?

We highly recommend that you sit one exam at a time. Literacy and Numeracy are very different subjects. Give yourself the time and space to focus on one subject at a time. You may like to complete the subject that you feel the most confident with, then spend the most time on the subject that you need to spend more time studying and receiving support in. It’s up to you.

I have more questions. What should I do?

Feel free to fill in the form on our Contact page or give us a call. We are more than happy to help!

12. Some expert advice from us:

  1. Achieving LANTITE Success can take time, hard work, lots of preparation and support.
  2. If you’ve been unsuccessful with a past attempt, that’s ok! The exams can be difficult. Be prepared to be unsuccessful in an exam attempt. It can happen. Do your best to find the gaps in your learning and press on with preparing for your next attempt.
  3. Complete one exam at a time (Numeracy then Literacy or visa versa), if you can. Then you can focus and dedicate your time and energy to one subject at a time.
  4. Use lots of useful LANTITE resources. We have HEAPS of them. Save yourself time and stress trying to find them! We have them available for you and they are ready for you to use at any time.
  5. Get support (i.e. join a support group) but be aware that some support groups mainly want to vent or focus on the negatives and can cause more anxiety and stress than necessary. Like our Facebook main page or join our Facebook group: Master Coaching and Tuition  – LANTITE Support.
  6. Getting a tutor is a great idea. It’s a great investment. Having a tutor will save you time, as you have someone to guide, support, journey alongside you and show you the gaps in your learning.  We are teachers too and most of us have sat and passed the exams ourselves, so we are empathic towards your LANTITE journey and want to share the highs and the lows of your journey with you.
  7. The LANTITE exams should not define you as a pre-service teacher or university student. Do your best. You are worth it.
  8. Reach out and ask questions if you need help. You don’t have to take this LANTITE journey alone. If you’re finding LANTITE exam preparation too stressful, step back and have a break and/or please seek professional support or help. Your mental and emotional health and wellbeing are important; please look after yourself.
